You divide the knob area of an ostrich skin into quarter’s e.g. the line from the neck to the tail and from one leg to the other.
  • If one quarter is damaged e.g. a scratch or a whole [shorter than three (3) cm] and the other three-quarters are clean it is a first grade skin.
  • If two quarters of the knob area of the skin is damage with a scratch or a whole [shorter than three (3) cm] it is a second grade skin.
  • If three quarters of the skin is damaged with a scratch or a whole [shorter than three (3) cm] it is a third grade skin.
  • If there is wholes or scratches [shorter than three (3) cm] in all four areas of the skin it is a fourth grade skin.
